BLYDE RIVER CANYON
Further north in South Africa and still part of the greater Drakensberg, the Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. It stretches over 25 kilometers in length and averages about 750 meters in depth. The Three Rondavels are the most well-known formation of the main canyon, along with Mariepskop, which towers at 1,945 meters above sea level—the highest point in the area. In the surrounding areas, you will find amazing waterfalls near Sabie, beautiful forests at Magoebaskloof, and one of the most picturesque roads in all of South Africa, the Abel Erasmus Pass, which connects the escarpment to the Lowveld.
